Thanksgiving 2024

Updated: Aug 31

I'm watching the Macy's Day parade this year, which is not typical, or at least hasn't been for decades.

REALLY enjoying it. So much diversity, throwbacks, music, and characters. Fun!

My Mom loved the Rockettes. She loved to dance and watch variety shows that were popular back in the day, like Carol Burnett, Sony and Cher, and so on. So much great entertainment back then.

I remember seeing her quietly tear up often when she would watch, especially as she got older. It touched me. I can see her now - grinning, tapping her toes, and snapping her fingers to whatever was on TV at the moment. So cute.

She had a huge heart full of dreams. I believe enjoying entertainers was one way for her to express much of what was deep in her heart. She had quite a story and was a true beacon of rising above life's challenging circumstances.

The Peanuts were my Dad's "thing." Mine too. I used to make my parents a Peanuts calendar for Christmas every year. My dad and I bonded over a LOT of things, but Peanuts was the big one. I remember making him a Snoopy model one year. He loved all my little kid gifts, but that one was his favorite. He kept it for years and years, until it became covered in dingy gray dust. So much so that even Snoopy showed what many years can do.

I carry my Dad's words, "You're pretty smart, you know that?" with me always. I miss hearing them.

I loved doing those kinds of things for my parents. Making them gifts was a highlight of my childhood. It's nice to remember those little things.

Time sure does fly. No matter how much things change, we can choose what we carry inside our hearts to keep our connections with loved ones alive. They become cherished memories and traditions.

These two clips from the parade were a welcome surprise and reminder of my mom and dad, and our family holidays that were so much fun.

Soon, I'll be indulging in another favorite tradition - olive stuffing. YUM!

Something that seemingly only those of us with Fachy-family blood can enjoy.

We can't get enough of it - it's like an addiction. Sitting here, I wonder which of my family members will be making it today as well?

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I hope you are all finding smiles and warm memories among the madness today.

Heartfelt wishes for a lovely day to all!
